The plan was clear , let´s try this pair of boots , but a real test, not the usual couple of days use  we usually find with some fast conclusions. Just open the box and use them on 80 days of real alpine guiding in a row.

A classic design with a single upper  piece of nobuck leather  protected with a rubber toe inforcement to increase the resistance, Gore-Tex and the Vibram Darwin WL  make the whole picture.

Zamberlan Baffin GTX test hiking boots , Fernando Calvo Guia de alta montañaMade for hiking over hard terrain with good cushioning, i´ve taken them to the limit and they have survived, we have hiked, with big backpack, but not only that , climbed with them up to 5.7 ,long alpine Ridges like “Schulze line”, or “Cabrones integral” (3 times) , Torreblanca-Llambrión, scrambling, ascending a lot of mountains kilometers…

Just open the box and straight to the road, i have to recognize i´m not specially careful with boots, more than that , not careful  at all, this pair of boots had bad luck!! .  Never cleaned them  if coming dirty , no wax, and when they got wet (snow or heavy rain) went straight over the heater, exactly what you shouldn´t do ( dry them on a shady warm place is what  it should be done! ) and next day again on the rocks.

Theorically they aren´t specially design for scrambling, are hiking boots, but they have behaved more than well, Vibram sole provides great grip, and the strong construction keeps your feet protected inside till the sole gets to the point of resoling.

All Zamberlan hiking boots are prepared to be resoled at every Vibram authorized shoe repair service.

Here they are after all summer:

All seams resisted to the hard and sharp Picos rock.

All parts of the lacing system like  eyelets or laces are ok and in their place.

The  frontal rubber toe protection band  is still perfectly glued to the leather.

Leather presents marks and scratches due to the terrain , but nothing terrible or affecting to the performance.

The inner side, nothing broken even on the heel area that usually is where starts to open. Very comfortable and the front wide part allows your toes to breath even in long and steep descents.

So i think they have earned a wax session before they get resoled to give a second part of the match. They deserve it!!

If you are looking for a good and solidly built boot but comfortable at the same time, the Zamberlan  Baffin GTX it´s a great option, tested and confirmed.
